About me
Dr. Brunson has worked in early childhood for over 20 years. Her Cradle to Prison Pipeline Intervention Service Learning Project provides literacy materials and school supplies to families living in poverty so they’ll have access to resources to strengthen social-emotional, physical, and cognitive skills at home with their parents. Her family literacy work also engages college students in tutoring young children considered at risk, helping children bridge literacy gaps so they may catch up to their typically developing peers. Her college students also join her in the field to donate family literacy bags. Finally, she is a proponent of play as a vehicle for learning and works with pre-professionals to help them understand the many ways that they can incorporate play into their Pre-K- 3rd grade classroom to promote meaningful conversations and learning. She is an active member of multiple professional literacy, early childhood, and curriculum organizations, serving as a board member, presenting, and publishing regularly.
